E’ finita. Da dove mi trovo, per quanto questa posizione possa sembrare ridicola e assurda ad una prima occhiata, sono cosciente che ogni cosa mi è apparsa all’improvviso in una prospettiva logica, unica, che avrei sempre ignorato se non così, adesso.
Avendo vissuto una parte della mia vita in un mondo di pure geometrie, intuisco la profonda bellezza di movimenti che sottendono una raison d’être apparentemente ignota. Questo lo dico affinché nessuno pensi che io abbia mai sperato, come fanno gli sciocchi, di cambiare uno stato di cose ormai cristallizzato nel tempo.

I Demoni is a collection of stories hovering between thriller and noir, and although they are completely different both in location and in theme, from law courts to China at the time of the Great Change, they are all guided by the demons that prowl in human communities, from the nightmares/memories of the alcoholic that form the essence of his genius, to the delusions of omnipotence springing from having accomplished the perfect crime, to the fear of losing our future just when we have found it against all hope. But these demons are real, existing independently from the characters of the stories, incontrollable and ineluctable, and each story develops a specific theme: dictatorship in Demoni and Scatole Cinesi, racism in L’età dei Mostri, jealousy in La Siciliana, indolence in L’Eclissi, crime and its motivations in La Scommessa and Braccio 17, time and its mystery in L’Assassino di Via Kremoy; Il Giardino Blu and Il Volo owe something to the biographies of M.Lowry and L.Wittgestein.
